The Brief

Having previously collaborated on their bathroom and bedroom renovation, the clients approached us to redesign their lounge and sunroom areas. They were particularly impressed with the quality, functionality, and aesthetics of the Rimadesio products installed upstairs and wanted to bring a similarly sleek and modern finish to these spaces. The brief focused on creating a simplified yet sophisticated design that would harmonise with the existing style of the home while incorporating warmth and a connection to nature.

 

The Design

Pieter’s design aimed to simplify and modernise the lounge and sunroom areas while achieving a seamless integration of materials, textures, and finishes. Drawing inspiration from the Rimadesio elements already used upstairs, Pieter selected a refined palette of matt glass, bronze metal, and walnut veneer. These materials were complemented by muted cream and green tones, soft furnishings, and ambient LED lighting, which together add warmth and depth.

The transformation of the lounge centred on creating a sleek and functional media wall as the focal point of the space. Pieter selected a combination of wall hung Rimadesio Self storage units and Eos shelves to achieve a minimalist yet practical design. The matt glass doors, finished in muted tones, were chosen to conceal technology while maintaining a clean and uncluttered look. These contemporary elements were balanced with light muted cream and green tones on the walls, complemented by olive-green soft chenille sofas and touches of faux greenery. This combination softened the clean lines of the contemporary furniture, adding a natural, organic feel to the room.

 

The walnut accents were further extended through two drawer packs, detailed with open walnut veneer inserts. These were paired with illuminated bronze Eos shelves on either side of the media wall, offering a minimalist yet striking display solution. The look was further enhanced with ornate handcrafted accessories, which added a moody and personal touch, completing the space with a sense of character and sophistication.

To further introduce warmth and texture, feature slatted wood panelling was installed as the backdrop for the television. Positioned slightly forward of the painted wall, this panelling created a subtle layered effect and allowed for the incorporation of LED strip lighting. The lighting highlights the natural grain of the walnut and casts a warm glow, which the clients often use as their primary light source in the evenings, creating a cosy and intimate atmosphere.

The transition between the lounge and sunroom was completely reimagined by removing the old fireplace surround and internal doors. Pieter introduced a new wall featuring two Rimadesio Soho sliding pocket doors in bronze metal with discreet finger pulls. These doors, designed to sit flush with the wall when closed, offer a sleek, minimalist appearance while remaining highly functional. To complete the structural transformation, minimalist tall white Zehnder radiators were installed, chosen for their clean lines and practical elegance, seamlessly blending with the overall design.

Within the sunroom itself, Pieter incorporated three Eos shelves, enhancing the space with additional storage and display options. These shelves were carefully positioned to maintain the sunroom’s clean and contemporary aesthetic. To add another layer of functionality and visual interest, a freestanding Alambra bookcase was introduced, serving as a striking focal point while complementing the room’s overall design.

The cohesive design language of the lounge extends into the sunroom, with bronze finishes, walnut wood accents, and muted cream and green tones tying the two spaces together. The Rimadesio sliding doors play a key role in this harmony, allowing light to flow freely between the rooms. Their design softly diffuses sunlight, creating a warm and calming atmosphere that is particularly appreciated when watching TV during daylight hours.
